Happy Birthday BooksPlease!

Today my blog is one year old.

Actually I set up the blog in July 2006 but I think of that as its conception because I didn’t write another thing until 12 April 2007, when I left work. Then I wrote: “I've been meaning to write more, both in this blog and in other writing, but somehow there's always something else to do. Well, now I have time during the day and I will write.”

From a slow start I've been writing ever since – not every day but on average I write about 5 posts a week. But without help from my husband I'd never have got started and he's always there to help with the technical stuff. I've enjoyed writing not only about the books I've been reading but also and the places I've visited. I really look forward to writing although the downside is that I actually read fewer books now than I did before I left work. The photo is the first one I put on the blog and I still haven't read all these books! I've still got three of them I haven't even started. It's just so tempting reading about books other bloggers are enthusing over that I'm easily sidetracked. But I do mean to read Falling Angels, The Sixth Wife and After the Victorians before long.

Blogging is addictive - I love writing the blog, I love reading other people’s blogs (I must expand my list on the sidebar because I read many more than are listed), and I love joining the challenges and linking up with other bloggers. It’s been a good year.

Happy Blog Birthday, Margaret! I love visiting your blog. My blog will have a one-year birthday at the end of this month. Can't believe the time has passed that quickly.

I do understand about reading about books more than actually reading the books themselves. I've struggled with this ever since becoming addicted to the internet, first with websites and threads, then things like Yahoogroups and online book groups, and now blogs. It's difficult to find the right balance.

Anyway, a happy day to you and I look forward to sharing your reading journey for a long time to come.

Take care.

Happy blog birthday! I'm glad you're blogging. I've struggled too with spending so much time blogging that I don't always get to my books as much as I'd like. But blogging is so enjoyable that it's worth it to try to find a balance.

Congratulations on your Blogiversary! I anticipate writing more frequently when I retire in six months too. I hope to do more reading but judging from your experience, that may not happen!!

Congratulations!

I agree that blogging is addictive (and a quick way to quadruple your reading list in a few weeks!)

I've only been blogging since last November, and now find it hard to stay away (especially since I was introduced to bloglines, and can track when my favourite blogs are updated - including yours).

I really enjoy your blog. Look forward to reading more of it in the next 12 months.

Happy Blog Birthday. Love visiting you! Curious about your book list, did you enjoy 'The Thirteenth Tale'?I've just finished it, once I got into it couldn't put it down. I see you've read 'The Sixth Wife', this is on me to read list, did you enjoy it?

Happy birthday! I too love blogging for similar reasons. Of the books on your current (pictured) pile, I very much enjoyed The Thirteenth Tale and On Chesil Beach. Hope you do, too.

Happy Blog Birthday! You're absolutely correct about blogging (reading and posting) being addictive. It is very addictive, indeed! I also sympathize with your issues of becoming sidetracked by the lovely reviews from fellow bloggers. Oh well, that's a nice problem to have, I guess. By the way, I have moved my blog (formerly PfeifferBooknotes) to Booknotes by Lisa at http://booknotesbylisa.blogspot.com. I visit your blog regularly and comment often, so I didn't want you to wander what happened to me. I just got everything changed over and have been painting all week, so there aren't any new posts as of yet. But, I start on my new job tomorrow, and I'll get back into a routine soon.

Happy Blog anniversary! I know what you mean about reading more blogs than you do books. People write such fascinating things in their blogs though... And you *must* read Falling Angels!

Thank you everyone for your good wishes.

There were no posts yesterday because I was away visiting my son and his family. I'll be back posting later on today.

J Kaye, I'm sorry I missed The Sunday Salon, I've a lot to catch up on!

Oh, and Maxine and Zetor I did enjoy The Thirteenth Tale and even better - On Chesil Beach. I haven't read The Sixth Wife yet.

And Cath, thanks for the 'push' to read Falling Angels.

Congratulations! Wow. a whole year. I'm just approaching two full months and I'm entirely addicted. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post and the comments; it's heartening to know almost everyone struggles with finding the balance between reading blogs and reading books. Looking forward to another year's worth of posts from BooksPlease! Thanks! Deborah @ Exuberant Reader

Happy Birthday a bit late...
Fancy mine being just two days older than yours. How strange. We were both having bloggish thoughts, such a distance apart...

I love reading your blog, and pop along every day, more or less.

Happy Blog-versary! It's weird as when I am on vacation I rarely read a lot of books (which I always expect to do) and do better when I am working (I guess I am more disciplined). I have noticed that I read more since blogging (though no doubt my cross stitch has suffered dramatically in the last couple of years!). It's so tempting to join challenges and online book groups that I am always sidetracked with my reading. Anyway--I greatly enjoy reading your blog and look forward to year 2 of it!

Happy Blog Birthday!!! It really is addicting, isn't it. And quite fun. I came to a point where I almost gave up on the thing altogether and then I discovered book bloggers and a whole new world opened up to me. I hope you enjoy your second year even more than the first.

Happy belated blog birthday!! I'm so happy to have met you via Kay & Nan's blogs and look forward to many more years of posts. I check in on your blog almost daily. (This past week was a bit hectic - thus the delay with these good wishes.)

By the way, Falling Angels is a wonderful book. I liked it even better than Girl with Pearl Earring.

Happy belated birthday ... doesn't time fly, as they say?

As you'll know from my blog I often blog as a displacement activity before I write, but it does also serve to organise my thoughts ... at least that's my excuse!

Many many happy returns.
